Tree Care Apprentice

Give all your new employees an industry credential! This will help you verify - according to OSHA and ANSI Z133 guidelines - that you have given introductory safety training to all your employees. It also helps verify that your employees understand basic tree care safety concepts and are qualified to work on your crew. The Tree Care Apprentice course is designed for new employees or employees who need a refresher course in basic safety training. This course is available in both English and Spanish.

The course covers:

  • Hazards in tree care and how to avoid them
  • How to work safely as a member of a tree care crew

CEUs: 1.5 ISA CEUs / 1.5 CTSP CEUs


Use the Tree Care Apprentice manual to help train your employees. In addition to the manual, you should include on-the-job training. The following TCIA training materials could also be used (optional): TCIA Safety Pocket Guide: Identifying Hazard Trees Basic Training for Ground Operations in Tree Care DVD Series - Video 1 Verification: Use the checklist provided in the Tree Care Apprentice manual to verify and document that the enrollee has learned the required skills to be considered qualified according to OSHA and ANSI Z133.1 standards.

Enrollment Fee:

$24.99 for TCIA members ($39.99 non-members). Fee includes the Tree Care Apprentice manual.

The fee also includes:

  • Test correction by TCIA
  • Transcript storage in TCIA database
  • Helmet decal, certificate, and laminated wallet card upon completion

Only those individuals, or companies with employees who hold valid certificates for a given program are allowed to advertise affiliation with these programs. TCIA does not provide or encourage advertising of the program logos, however displays of valid certificates and wallets cards as well as depictions of helmets decals and uniform patches in photos of individuals and employees is permitted.
