Education and Workforce Development: Are You Having Trouble Hiring Good Help?​

A little more than a year ago, TCIA launched its Workforce Development Initiative in response to a shortage of skilled workers in the tree care industry. The overall goal is to increase the number of qualified individuals entering the workforce, a lack of which has plagued the industry for decades. 

It’s the number-one limiting factor to business growth and development in al-most every city and rural community in all 50 states, according to feedback from TCIA members. In service occupations, skilled workers are often cited as the most important factor in serving clients and remaining profitable.

It’s a Great Time to Buy a Used Chipper – If You Can FindOne

The used chipper market is red hot. That’s largely due to the “law of unintended consequences.” 

In the case of chippers (and other diesel-powered equipment), the cost of a new, clean-emissions Tier IV chipper is adding about $15,000 to $20,000 to the price of a new machine, depending on the engine, emissions setup and machine size.

Conducting an Effective Safety Meeting

This article is about conducting an effective safety meeting. The key word being effective. At times, this can be challenging. Effective means that you deliver the intended result. If your employees are not wearing their PPE, and you address that in a meeting and all of a sudden they are wearing their PPE, you have been effective. I believe safety meetings are like little miracles. Through the power of what you say, you can actually influence somebody to do something better.
