Forces in Single Rope System (SRS) Climbing
Eric Whipple, CTSP
Have you ever wondered about the similarities of rigging to climb and rigging to dismantle a tree? Tree climbing and rigging have similar effects on rope. Load movement (climber and/or tree parts) also both have an effect on the tree. Understanding vectors and compression is critical to avoid tree failures, injuries and fatalities. Walk through simple steps needed to estimate the rope vectors and angles of deflection in climbing or rigging that don’t require protractors or load cells on the job
