Overview
Organized by TCIA with the support nationally of several major chipper manufacturers, the new Chipper Operator Specialist workshops uses a nationally recognized curriculum to train tree care employees in hazards as well as accepted practices for brush chipper operation and other loosely associated tasks. The training program, built for crew members who often do not receive formal training opportunities, will increase employee involvement with overall safety compliance and self-policing.
This training provides the tree worker with the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized credential. The workshop includes both lecture-style training (videos & discussion) and field training (brush chipper and chipper winch set-up, operation, inspection, and troubleshooting/field maintenance). Participants receive a "Chipper Operator Specialist" enrollment and manual.
Once a candidate has completed the workshop and gone through the manual, TCIA will grade the exam and issue a certificate of completion, as well as a laminated wallet card, arm patch and helmet decal. Candidates’ transcripts are maintained in the TCIA database, and they receive on-demand notification of transcript status via TCIA’s toll free number.
Chipper Operator Specialist workshops are made possible with the support and assistance of Altec Industries, Inc., Bandit Industries, Morbark, Inc. and Vermeer.
