Back in 2012, TCIA planted the seeds of a “give back” campaign.
Winter Management Conference attendees took some time last year to “adopt” a local school on the island of Curacao, site of WMC 2012. TCIA asked attendees to bring items such as pencils, crayons and books that would be donated to a local elementary school. In total, six boxes full of school supplies were donated to the Mgr. Julio Henriquez elementary school.
The entire school came out to accept the gifts and to thank the TCIA representatives. “It was definitely one of the highlights,” says Diane Morgan, TCIA’s meeting planner and the staffer responsible for the community service project. “We were all moved by the enthusiasm of the school and we hope that the gifts truly help the wonderful children of this school.”
The success of last year’s program spearheaded TCIA’s desire to continue the program at WMC 2013 in St. Kitts.
This year, we will be collecting and donating items to the Dieppe Bay Primary School. The school is located about 20-30 minutes from the site of WMC and the children range in age from 5 to 12. They desperately need supplies and we know our WMC attendees are more than happy to help out!
Items Needed:
- Pens
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Magic markers
- Crayons
- Coloring books
- Dictionaries
- Exercise book (math, penmanship, etc)
- Backpacks
- Etc
These items don’t need to be expensive or new - gently used is fine. Anything is appreciated … the students and teachers will be very thankful!
So if you have just a little extra space in your suitcase, we ask you to bring some of these needed items to WMC 2013 (February 10-14). Help us supply the school with what they need the most. Questions? Contact Diane Morgan via email or phone at 603-314-5380.
