This isn't meant to be a thesis on styles of learning and why your firm should use video training. It's just a statement of a simple truth, and one that any trainer can easily observe: People learn differently, therefore different training methods work better with certain employees.
Your employees have different learning styles. Verbal learners respond best to written or verbal instructions. Visual or associative learners do best with videos, demonstrations and drawings. Tactile or "hands-on" workers learn by doing and respond best to practice.
There are other considerations. It is estimated that between 5 and 15 percent of the adult U.S. population have some sort of learning disability, and generally that percentage is much higher in the demographic that your workers come from. The most common types of disability affect one's ability to read.
Then of course there is the issue of workers whose first language isn't English. Training can be very challenging when verbal communication is limited. To get the most out of your training efforts, it pays to explore with your employees how they learn best. We think that you'll find that a majority of your employees can take advantage of video training.
TCIA started producing video training programs in 1987, and started producing slide/cassette training more than a decade before that. We have used all that experience to bring you a wide range of current, professional quality arborist safety and technical video programming. Some of our most popular titles are available in Spanish.
