Dr. Gary Moorman "Diseases Spread by Insects" (55:42)

Diseases caused by plant pathogens that are spread by insects are particularly difficult to control. It is important to know which insects are involved and when those insects are actively spreading the pathogen in order to know if insecticides can be used effectively to manage the disease. Dr. Moorman discusses these issues as they pertain to the biology and management of bacterial leaf scorch, oak wilt, Dutch elm disease, elm yellows, and a new disease, Thousand cankers. This podcast was recorded at TCI EXPO 2011 in Hartford, CT.

Tim Walsh "Z133 and the Every Day tree Trimmer" (35:38)

ANSI, OSHA, should-shall, what does it all really mean. Tim Walsh of Asplundh Tree Expert Co. explores the ANSI Z 133.1 safety standard for arborists and tries to make sense of it all. The history of the committee that creates the standard, as well as the standard itself will be reviewed. He explains how the standard affects those of us who are out there every day and what we can do to be, and stay safe! This podcast was recorded at TCI EXPO 2011 in Hartford, CT.

Dr. Tom Smiley "Fertilization, Compost Tea & Other Magical Elixirs to Promote Tree Health" (49:46)

Arborists need to make a lot of tough decisions. When faced with a client's tree that is in poor health the first step is to diagnose the cause of the problem. This can be a difficult task; is it a nutrient deficiency, a disease or maybe and insect infestation? If the diagnosis is clear cut, the treatment is typically well defined. However, arborists are often faced with treating trees after a murky diagnosis. In these cases there is often pressure to use treatments that are at the fringe of the industry. Dr. Smiley's presentation reviews the origins of these treatments, which work and which do not. If you are in the business of treating trees, this podcast is for you. This podcast was recorded at TCI EXPO 2010 in Pittsburgh.
